Cryptocurrencies and NFT fall under the Your Money Your Life (YMYL) category and are checked by search engines more thoroughly. After the 2018 ban on advertising for wallets and cryptocurrency exchanges, Google partially lifted the ban for the certified project in Japan and the USA. Until 2021, crypto-projects promoted themselves organically, through search engines, at times applying media advertising.
At the moment, cryptocurrency exchanges and wallets targeting the USA are actively promoting their own products and offers. Google demonstrates this advertising in the search, on YouTube, and on other resources, but only if the project is certified by FinCEN. It is also crucial to stick to all Google criteria, which are designed to advertise cryptocurrencies. ICO and DeFi advertising is not allowed even today.
Google ads are allowed for projects whose work is not associated with the purchase, savings, or exchange of cryptocurrencies. Advertising of cryptocurrency exchanges is allowed in Canada, as well as Israel, the USA, and Japan. Under the absolute ban, there are landing pages with a comparative analysis of cryptocurrency-related goods (advice on investing in cryptocurrency, aggregator sites or partners with similar materials, broker reviews).
Despite the bans, Google shows at the top of search results reliable crypto-resources, and also supports a platform for investors - Google Finance with a section on cryptocurrencies, summary analytics, and leading news from the
news aggregators.
